A British couple’s rural dream home in Italy has turned into a grim crime scene, with the partner of a British grandmother being the prime suspect in her stabbing death.

Michele Faiers, 66, was discovered in a pool of blood in her first-floor bedroom by a concerned friend at their residence near Casoli in eastern Italy.

Italian carabinieri police, led by Colonel Alceo Greco, believe that Michele Faiers had passed away at least three days before her body was found.

They have launched a nationwide search for her partner, 74-year-old Michael Whitbread, a retired management consultant.

There are concerns that he may have already fled the country, making him a fugitive.

The couple had been residing in their countryside home near Palombaro for the past four years and were described as very private by residents.

Michele Faiers’ last Instagram post, featuring a breathtaking sunset from their terrace, was made on October 25, and it was liked by her partner Michael Whitbread.

A British couple’s rural dream home in Italy has turned into a grim crime scene, with the partner of a British grandmother being the prime suspect in her stabbing death.

While the pair appeared to have a happy life together, enjoying skiing trips and diving holidays, the tragic discovery has shocked those who knew them.

A local plumber who had done work for the couple expressed disbelief at the news and remembered them as a seemingly perfect couple.

Michele was found by her concerned friend, who had grown increasingly worried after not hearing from her for three days.

The friend’s screams upon discovering the gruesome scene alerted the neighbors, leading to a police investigation.

Forensic tests are being conducted to determine the time of her death.

The region of Palombaro, where the couple resided, is home to a community of British expatriates who have moved to restore abandoned farmhouses.

The area of Abruzzo, with its affordable cost of living and appealing lifestyle, has drawn many middle-class Britons seeking a quieter life or a holiday home in Italy.

As the investigation unfolds, the fate of Michael Whitbread remains uncertain, and Italian authorities are working diligently to unravel the tragic events that unfolded in their idyllic Italian countryside home.
