On Thursday, October 31, 2019 Sheriff Bradshaw will award members of the community with Samaritan Awards, awarded for their outstanding acts, achievement, and/or exceptional service to his or her fellow man and community that is relative to the ideals of law enforcement service.
According to the Sheriff’s office, a gentleman will be honored for wrestling a suspect to the ground that threatened to kill deputies. His heroism diffused a potential fatal encounter.
Two other gentlemen will be honored for finding a new born baby alive in a dumpster. Both gentlemen were walking in the area of the dumpster and heard what appeared cry’s. One of the men jumped into the dumpster and found a live newborn baby girl that was placed inside a bag. Both men removed the baby from the bag, cleaned her up as best they could and called 911. The baby made a full recovery thanks to the quick actions of both men.
Another gentleman will be honored for his care and generosity to the family of a Palm Beach deputy, David German, who recently lost his battle to cancer.
Additionally, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office employees will be honored with several awards such as:
Unit Commendation – awarded to Sheriff’s Office units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service. It recognizes outstanding units of a difficult and challenging mission under extraordinary circumstances.
Life Saving – awarded to a Sheriff’s Office Employee, sworn or non-sworn civilian, who distinguished himself or herself by extraordinary achievement of life saving actions or rescuing any other person from imminent death or grave bodily injury.
Law Enforcement Deputy of the Year, Corrections Deputy of the Year, Detective of the Year and Non-Sworn Employee of the Year – presented for going above and beyond the performance of duty reasonably expected of an employee.
