COPS: “If You Are A Human With A Heart, This Case Should Destroy You Inside” – FIU Graduate, 22, Shot & Killed While Driving on I-95 in Miami

MIAMI, FL – The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau is investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a young woman while she was driving on Interstate 95 on Friday, January, 3rd at approximately 8:30 p.m.

According to investigators, Melissa Gonzalez, 22, and her boyfriend were traveling on I-95 in the area of NW 79 Street when Gonzalez’s boyfriend, Julian Veliz Cortina, noticed that she had been shot through a rear window which shattered. He immediately grabbed the steering wheel, took control of the vehicle, and stopped to seek assistance.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Gonzalez deceased on the scene. The boyfriend was not injured during the incident. Investigators have ruled out the possibility of road rage.

Due to the time of day and the day of the week, investigators are confident someone may have seen or heard something, saying there is no doubt that there are people out there with information on this case and are urging the assistance of the community.
