Detectives investigating death reported in Osteen area

UPDATE APRIL 21, 2021, 4:21 PM: The Volusia death investigation is continuing, and proceeded throughout the night and into the morning. The female victim, Amy Desiree Layne Humphries, 28 of Orange City, was discovered by a passerby along the trail off Osteen Maytown Road, and had multiple stab wounds. The investigation into her death led to the identification of the suspect vehicle, which was spotted in Seminole County today, leading to the incident that just occurred. Sheriff Mike Chitwood held a press briefing in DeLand where he discussed what transpired.

OSTEEN, FL – Volusia sheriff’s detectives are investigating the circumstances of a death that was discovered Tuesday evening in the Osteen area. According to authorities, the body of a deceased female was discovered around 7 p.m. by a witness on a trail off Osteen Maytown Road, in the area of Azalea Lane.

The investigation is active. No further information is available for release at this early stage, but updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
