POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a pedestrian who died after he was struck by a Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway cargo train early Wednesday morning. 

According to investigators, shortly before 3 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, Broward Regional Communications received a call about a train versus a pedestrian crash near the 200 block of South Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach. A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was lying on the railroad tracks as the FEC train approached. According to detectives, the FEC conductor spotted the victim and activated the train’s horn and emergency brakes.

Broward Sheriff’s crime scene and homicide detectives responded to investigate. Representatives from FEC and the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office were notified of the incident and responded.

The victim’s body was transported to the M.E.’s office for a post-mortem examination. No foul play is suspected at this time.
