POMPANO BEACH, FL – Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating a fatal collision involving a Brightline train and a person who was reportedly standing on the tracks.

According to authorities, at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, Broward Regional Communications received reports of a crash involving a train and a pedestrian in the area of Copans Road and Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded with a preliminary investigation revealing that as the train approached, the person stood on the tracks. The train engineer told detectives he immediately sounded the horn and flashed the train’s lights multiple times; however, the pedestrian did not move and the train struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased on scene.

Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash. The pedestrian has not yet been identified.
