WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid ongoing concerns over the purported decline in cognitive abilities of President Joe Biden, newly-appointed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dismissed a question – laughing while doing so – about the issue while being interviewed by CNN’s Don Lemon.

Lemon, a lead anchor on the left-leaning news network, asked Jean-Pierre on Monday about the President’s mental and physical fitness in regards to a potential 2024 run for reelection to the White House.

“Does the president has the stamina, physically and mentally, do you think to continue on even after 2024?” Lemon asked.

This prompted Jean-Pierre – the successor to former Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who resigned from her post in May to pursue a job at MSNBC – to erupt in laughter, as if Lemon’s query was completely absurd.

“Don! You’re asking me this question! Oh my gosh!” she exclaimed. “He’s the President of the United States! You know he…I can’t even keep up with him. We just got back from New Mexico, we just got back from California, that is…I, I…that is not a question that we should be even asking.”

Jean-Pierre continued, stammering throughout her reply and making reference to a news article critical of the President’s mental faculties that had been mentioned earlier in the interview.

“Just look at the work that he does, look how he’s delivering for the American public,” she said. “Look, that, that, that article we’re talking about is heresy, salacious…that’s not what we care about. We care about how we’re going to deliver for the American people, how are we going to make their lives better. That’s what the President talks about, that is his focus, and that’s where we’re going to continue to focus on.”

The interview comes on the heels of several recent public gaffes on the part of Biden that have left some questioning his mental state, including accusations that he attempted to shake hands with an invisible man at a recent speaking event, as well as repeatedly struggling to pronounce the word “kleptocracy” while delivering remarks at the White House on Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, among others.
