SAN ANTONIO, TX – After authorities discovered an 18-wheeler abandoned in San Antonio on Monday evening containing up to 100 illegally-transported migrants – 50 of whom had passed away after enduring blistering heat for hours – Texas Governor Greg Abbott put the blame for the tragedy on President Joe Biden and his administration’s policies on immigration.

Abbott issued a tweet after police made their grim discovery – at which point the total number of deceased wasn’t finalized – laying the blame for the deaths squarely at Biden’s feet.

“At Least 42 People Found Dead Inside Truck Carrying Migrants In Texas. These deaths are on Biden,” he said. “They are a result of his deadly open border policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law.”

Of the 100 migrants discovered in the truck on Monday, 46 had succumbed to intense temperatures that reached as high as 102 degrees at points during the day, with four more passing away later at a local area hospital, officials say.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was also highly critical of Biden’s immigration policies and directly attributed them to Monday’s incident.

“Horrific. This..is..WRONG,” Cruz tweeted. “How many more people have to die before Dems give a damn?”

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) also issued a statement on the incident on Twitter, and later called on U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to resign.

“Today in San Antonio it was 102 degrees. Imagine being abandoned inside an 18-wheeler left to die – 42 people died today – will @AliMayorkas even mention their names?” Gonzales said, later adding, “Death count is up to 50. @SecMayorkas must RESIGN due to loss of confidence in his ability to command.”

The crisis at the United States’ southern border still shows no sign of abating, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reporting that their agents were forced to contend with an astonishing 239,416 encounters with migrants who were attempting to illegally cross the border in May 2022, an all-time record.
