HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Two 16 year-old carjacking suspects are currently in the hospital in stable condition after a Texas father shot both of them while they allegedly attempted to steal his car – with his family seated inside, including two young children – with the intense incident caught on a neighbor’s doorbell video camera.
The family – whose names are currently being withheld because they were the victims of a violent crime – had just pulled up to their home in Houston in their SUV on Monday evening when the two juvenile suspects approached the vehicle and opened the rear door; the family’s 1 year-old child – along with a second child of unknown age – were seated in the back seat at the time, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
At that time the father – who was seated in the passenger seat of the SUV and who was legally armed at the time – drew his pistol and fired several shots through the vehicle’s rear window, hitting both of the teenaged carjackers, cops say; on the released doorbell video footage, four gunshots can be heard at the time of the incident.
After the shooting, the SUV is seen on the video screeching off down the road to safety; the two suspects can be heard screaming in pain as they jump into a nearby waiting escape car and flee the scene. The two were later dropped off at a local area hospital, where they were located and placed under arrest.
The two suspects remain in the hospital in stable condition, according to officials, and will be arraigned as soon as medically possible.
None of the members of the family that were victimized were harmed, and the father – whom the sheriff’s office stated was acting in self-defense when he shot the two would-be thieves – is not facing any charges.
