Selena Gomez’s ‘Only Murders in the Building’ post removed from Instagram amid ongoing actors strike
A new social media post promoting Season 3 of Selena Gomez’s hit Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building” has been removed from her Instagram page amid the ongoing Hollywood actors strike.
As reported by Variety and the Los Angeles Times, Gomez had shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of “Only Murders in the Building” on Tuesday with the caption “Missing and wanting @onlymurdershulu”. The post had garnered over 1 million likes within 15 hours before it was deleted.
Gomez stars as Mabel Mora on the acclaimed mystery-comedy series alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. Season 3 premiered on August 8 to strong reviews. However, actors have been prevented from engaging in promotional activities for their work since members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike in mid-July.
The key issues in the dispute include demands for higher compensation and better working conditions from the union. SAG-AFTRA members are prohibited from filming new content, auditioning for roles, or publicly promoting existing projects under the expired contract terms.
In compliance with strike regulations, Gomez’s latest Instagram post about “Only Murders in the Building” seems to have been removed. The actress had shared promotional videos for Season 3 with Meryl Streep in July prior to the strike.
Negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) are ongoing. In the meantime, stars like Gomez are complying with union restrictions despite the buzz and positive reviews around projects.
The actors strike has disrupted promotional plans and schedules for many upcoming movies, shows and streaming titles. Fans will have to wait for an agreement to be reached before seeing their favorite stars publicly discuss new projects again.
For Selena Gomez, that means no social media promotion of her acclaimed Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building”, at least for now. The ongoing labor dispute has put a temporary halt on her engagement with fans online regarding one of her most popular acting roles.
