Tragedy struck the US-Canada border at Niagara Falls, New York, as a vehicle explosion on the Rainbow Bridge claimed the lives of two individuals, sending shockwaves through both nations.

According to reports from multiple sources familiar with the investigation, the vehicle suspected to be a Mercedes accelerated toward a border checkpoint on the US side, crashing into a concrete barrier. 

The impact propelled the vehicle into the area designated for secondary screenings of US-bound cars, triggering a catastrophic explosion and subsequent fire.

Authorities discovered a suspicious suitcase or briefcase at the scene, prompting the involvement of the bomb squad. As a precautionary measure, investigators are treating the item as a potential explosive device while conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the devastating incident.

In response to the unfolding situation, Ron Rienas, the General Manager of the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, confirmed the closure of all four US-Canada bridges over the Niagara River.
