Authorities discovered a suspicious suitcase or briefcase at the scene, prompting the involvement of the bomb squad. As a precautionary measure, investigators are treating the item as a potential explosive device while conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the devastating incident.

In response to the unfolding situation, Ron Rienas, the General Manager of the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, confirmed the closure of all four US-Canada bridges over the Niagara River.
