South Carolina Heartbreaking Accident: 6-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shot and Killed by 17-Year-Old Hunter

A devastating incident unfolded in South Carolina as a 6-year-old boy, identified as Avery Davis, lost his life in a hunting mishap on Friday. 

According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Avery was in an elevated hunting stand when he was struck by a stray shotgun pellet, seemingly fired by a shooter on the ground.

The Orangeburg County Coroner confirmed that Avery succumbed to a gunshot wound to the side of his head, detailing the heartbreaking outcome of the incident. 

Authorities, including the Department of Natural Resources, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident, extending their condolences to Avery’s grieving family.

The shooter, a 17-year-old whose bullet struck Avery, remains a focal point of the investigation. Reports indicate uncertainty regarding potential charges against the teenager in connection with the distressing event.

Avery’s father, Jeremy, expressed profound grief and disbelief in an emotional Facebook post, struggling to articulate the enormity of his loss. 

Describing his son as a vibrant and beloved individual known for his exuberance and love for nature, Jeremy reminisced about Avery’s infectious energy that touched the lives of those around him.

In a touching tribute, teachers at Avery’s elementary school paid homage to the young outdoorsman by donning camouflage attire, commemorating his love for the outdoors. 

Grief counselors were also made available by the South Carolina school to help staff and students deal with the loss.

Despite the profound sorrow, Jeremy found solace in his son’s legacy as an organ donor, stating that Avery’s generosity would help save the lives of five individuals. He affirmed his unwavering pride in his son, vowing to preserve Avery’s memory in the hearts of all who knew him.
