Kuzmin military training ground in southern Russia was rocked by a tragic incident on November 3, resulting in the loss of a dozen marines’ lives.
According to local news outlet 161.ru, the fatal mishap occurred when a group of around 20 marines from Vladivostok decided to light a fire during their lunch break near a stockpile of ammunition.
Tragically, what was intended as a simple break turned into a disaster as an RPG-7 grenade launcher shell inadvertently rolled into the flames, causing a devastating explosion.
The repercussions were dire, with eight marines losing their lives instantly, while four others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Additionally, eight more individuals were wounded in the blast.
These incidents have prompted grave concerns about safety protocols within the Russian military. This particular occurrence isn’t an isolated one. Earlier in February, a similar tragedy struck in the Kursk region, leading to the deaths of six soldiers.
The soldiers, using a cooking stove in a trench, accidentally triggered an explosion by pouring gasoline onto the open flame, resulting in a fire.
Explosions Shake Russian Military Zones
Additionally, back in January, military personnel deployed in the Belgorod region experienced another inadvertent explosion due to what emergency services characterized as the negligent handling of ammunition.
The string of tragic accidents involving explosions in different regions of Russia has brought the spotlight onto safety measures and compliance with established protocols within the military.
Russia’s Investigative Committee is looking into these distressing incidents, trying to understand the circumstances that led to these fatalities.
Notably, the Kremlin and the Defense Ministry have remained silent regarding these specific incidents.
The absence of official statements has left many questions unanswered and has underscored the urgency for a thorough review and reinforcement of safety measures to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
These devastating events serve as a stark reminder of the critical importance of stringent adherence to safety protocols, especially in environments where the slightest oversight can lead to catastrophic consequences.
