Los Angeles Fatal Home Invasion: Homeowner Shoots and Kills One of Three Intruders
One burglar was killed early on Saturday after a Los Angeles resident defended themselves during a home invasion, according to police reports.
The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. in the Granada Hills neighborhood on Swinton Avenue, where law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire within a residence.
Upon arrival, officers encountered the homeowner, who recounted being inside the house when three unidentified men forcibly entered the property, despite a grandmother and child also being present.
Describing the intruders as wearing dark clothing, hoodies, and masks, the homeowner detailed retrieving a handgun out of fear for his life and subsequently firing multiple shots at the suspects.
One of the assailants was struck by the gunfire, prompting the other two to flee the scene. The suspects, who arrived in a black BMW sedan, hastily departed without their vehicle.
Los Angeles Authorities’ Examination of Evidence
Emergency medical responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived promptly but pronounced the wounded suspect deceased on-site.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the deceased intruder had sustained two gunshot wounds and was found in possession of property belonging to the homeowner.
Following the incident, detectives from the Operations Valley Bureau Homicide Division initiated a preliminary investigation.
The homeowner was brought in for questioning at the Devonshire Community Police Station. Subsequently, after the preliminary inquiries, the homeowner was released.
