United States Former ambassador to Bolivia, Manuel Rocha, was arrested in Miami on Friday, accused of secretly working as a Cuban government agent.

The apprehension of Rocha, who is 73 years old, was carried out following the filing of a formal criminal complaint, prompting authorities to take action against him.

However, specific details regarding the accusations are anticipated to be unveiled during a court appearance scheduled for Monday, as per insider sources familiar with the case.

A complaint lodged with the Justice Department claims that Rocha was engaged in activities supporting the interests of the Cuban government.

Under federal law, individuals conducting political endeavors on behalf of foreign governments or entities within the United States are mandated to register with the Justice Department. In recent times, the Justice Department has intensified efforts to criminally prosecute unauthorized foreign lobbying.

United States Former ambassador to Bolivia, Manuel Rocha, was arrested in Miami on Friday, accused of secretly working as a Cuban government agent.

Rocha’s extensive 25-year diplomatic career spanned both Democratic and Republican administrations, with a significant portion dedicated to Latin American assignments during the Cold War era.

His service extended across various countries, including Italy, Honduras, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, along with his tenure as a Latin America specialist for the National Security Council.

Following the allegations, inquiries made by the Associated Press to Rocha’s wife, Karla Wittkop Rocha, were met with her refusal to comment. “I don’t need to talk to you,” she responded before ending the call, declining further discussion.

However, the Justice Department refrained from providing any statements or remarks regarding this particular case, choosing not to comment or offer information in response to inquiries or queries concerning the situation.

The case against Rocha signifies a notable development in the federal government’s vigilance regarding potential unlawful foreign influence, particularly within diplomatic circles.

The upcoming court appearance is expected to shed light on the specifics of the allegations and the evidence put forth by federal authorities against the former United States ambassador.
