Arizona Governor Seeks $512 Million Repayment from Biden Administration Over Border Security Issues
Arizona’s Democratic Governor, Katie Hobbs, confronts the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border crisis in a forceful letter to President Biden.
Expressing dismay over what she perceives as federal inaction, Hobbs demanded a substantial reimbursement of $512,529,333 for the expenses incurred by Arizona due to the border situation.
In her missive to President Biden, Governor Hobbs emphasized the federal government’s failure to secure the Arizona border, signaling a significant financial impact on the state. She stated unequivocally that Arizona will seek reimbursement regularly from the federal government moving forward.
The recent closure of the Lukeville Port of Entry, mandated by federal authorities, has escalated the crisis, compelling residents from both sides of the border to undertake lengthy detours to the next accessible port in Nogales, Arizona. Governor Hobbs condemned this decision, labeling it a catalyst for an escalating humanitarian crisis that poses threats to Arizona’s safety and commerce.
Hobbs’ Firm Stand for Arizona’s Border Safety
Governor Hobbs’ letter demanded immediate action, calling for the reassignment of 243 National Guard soldiers already stationed in the Tucson region to the Lukeville Port of Entry.
Additionally, she urged the deployment of additional National Guard members to aid the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in reopening the closed entry point.
This weekend, Governor Hobbs planned to personally visit the southern border in Lukeville, underscoring her commitment to addressing the border crisis head-on. She reiterated that safeguarding border security and ensuring community safety remains her foremost priority.
Governor Hobbs emphasized her determination to protect Arizonans, even in the face of federal inaction. She affirmed her unwavering commitment, stating, “As long as I’m Governor, I will do everything I can to keep Arizonans safe even when the federal government fails to act.”
Governor Hobbs’ office did not immediately reply to a request for any comments on the situation, despite these audacious remarks.
This action underscores the mounting annoyance and urgency felt by state officials like Governor Hobbs and represents a turning point in the ongoing discussion over the southern border situation.
