Netflix Expands Content with Addition of Iconic Grand Theft Auto Games
Netflix subscribers received an unexpected holiday gift as the streaming giant announced the availability of three classic Grand Theft Auto games at no additional cost.
Effective from December 14, GTA enthusiasts can now relish in the mobile versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition encompassing GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas accessible on iOS/Android devices for Netflix subscribers.
These Definitive Editions initially introduced on consoles and PC in 2021, have finally made their way to mobile platforms.
However, their arrival was accompanied by a storm of criticism upon their console and PC launch, citing various issues ranging from bugs, glitches, and peculiar alterations in art direction to typographical errors in AI-enhanced background signage.
In response to the uproar, Rockstar, the game’s developer, diligently set out to rectify the flaws plaguing the console and PC versions, delaying the mobile release initially slated for 2022 until now.
Promising improvements in the mobile versions, Rockstar introduced a ‘Classic Lighting’ mode, aiming to restore the original color schemes reminiscent of the initial PS2 and Xbox releases.
Netflix’s Integration of Game Downloads
Netflix users wasted no time diving into the gaming experience, with the ability to download the titles directly from the Netflix app’s games tab or main menu.
Alternatively, they can acquire the games from the App Store or Google Play Store for free, thereafter signing into Netflix. However, a crucial distinction exists users should ensure they download the version displaying the Netflix logo on the app icon.
Versions lacking this logo could either be the older, non-remastered mobile versions or separate purchasable apps for the Definitive Editions.
Amidst the excitement, unanswered queries loom over compatibility between save files across these diverse versions. Fans and enthusiasts eagerly anticipate comprehensive comparison videos delving into alterations between the console, PC, and now mobile versions.
Netflix’s generous offering of these beloved classics for its subscribers marks a compelling move, further blurring the lines between streaming entertainment and gaming, while also stirring up nostalgia among gamers eager to revisit the iconic worlds of GTA.
