DeSantis’ Close Associate Under Scrutiny for Alleged COVID-19 Misinformation Campaign

DeSantis launched a year-long grand jury investigation into COVID-19 vaccine-related crimes in Florida, but as it concludes, no public revelations of these offenses have emerged.

The court, responding to DeSantis’ plea, assigned Hillsborough County Chief Judge Christopher Sabella to oversee the statewide investigation, which is currently in its final days.

Despite the extensive investigation, there’s been a notable absence of disclosed findings from the grand jury. Queries directed to Judge Sabella’s office regarding the potential release of the grand jury’s discoveries went unanswered, leaving the public in the dark about any conclusive outcomes.

Ironically, the most conspicuous instance of vaccine-related controversy in Florida involved Governor DeSantis’ appointee, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, the state’s Surgeon General.

Ladapo faced accusations of distorting a state-sponsored study in 2022, skewing vaccine data to suggest higher risks among young men, subsequently advising against vaccinations for this demographic.

DeSantis launched a year-long grand jury investigation into COVID-19 vaccine-related crimes in Florida, but as it concludes, no public revelations of these offenses have emerged.

Dr. Ladapo’s controversial actions continued when he publicly undermined COVID-19 booster shots, dismissing their safety and downplaying their benefits, contradicting established health recommendations.

Moreover, he spread misinformation about the vaccine’s alleged DNA contamination that could cause cancer, a claim debunked by medical experts.

In response to Ladapo’s assertions, CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen visited a Walgreens pharmacy in Orlando, reaffirming the importance of vaccines and providing accurate information to Floridians. This move by Cohen aimed to counter Ladapo’s misleading statements and reinforce CDC-endorsed vaccination guidance.

Governor DeSantis’ unwavering support for Ladapo, appointing him as Florida’s health officer and securing his tenure as a professor at the University of Florida, juxtaposes the state’s official health stance with Ladapo’s controversial anti-vaccine positions.

As Florida awaits the grand jury’s final report, the spotlight remains on the paradox between the governor’s initiative to uncover vaccine-related offenses and the conspicuous actions of his appointee, Dr. Ladapo, which have stirred widespread criticism and raised concerns about public health messaging in the state.
