Texas Guards Defend Border: Migrants Hurdle Razor Wire in Tense Encounter

The migrant crisis at the Texas border is shown in a recent film, which shows Texas National Guard personnel battling a wave of migrants trying to cross at Eagle Pass.

The video showcases guards employing plastic riot shields to fend off a relentless stream of asylum seekers, some of whom resort to climbing over razor wire and navigating through mud in a desperate bid to reach the US.

As the guards jostle with the crowd, a harrowing moment unfolds when a rock narrowly misses a soldier’s head, highlighting the escalating tensions on the ground.

Amid the chaos, a female migrant is seen being pushed back across guards, falling onto other migrants. Another clip depicts a migrant who successfully made it through being forcibly brought to the ground by the National Guard.

Eagle Pass has emerged as a focal point for the migrant crisis, with a record 14,000 individuals crossing the Texan border in a 24-hour period last month. Border Patrol agents in the town faced challenges processing the massive influx, leading to makeshift holding centers in open fields, where migrants were kept for days.

The situation in Eagle Pass prompted Texas Governor Greg Abbott to sign an emergency order, taking control of a large public park along the Rio Grande without prior permission. This move adds to the tension in Eagle Pass, where migrant arrivals overwhelmed infrastructure and temporarily closed a rail crossing last month.

US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas visited Eagle Pass recently, following a tour by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.

However, the decision to close the 50-acre park, known as Shelby Park, has raised questions from Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, particularly as daily apprehensions in the region have reportedly decreased in recent weeks.

Governor Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, initiated in 2022, involves transporting thousands of migrants out of Texas to so-called sanctuary cities like New York, Chicago, Washington, and Denver.

With more than 100,000 migrants dispatched under this operation, the crisis continues to unfold against the backdrop of strained resources and escalating challenges at the Texas-Mexico border.
