The famous Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan has voiced her great sadness and disgust about a certain joke in the recently released Mean Girls remake.

The remake, spearheaded by Tina Fey and featuring Angourie Rice as the new student Cady Heron, includes a cameo appearance by rapper Megan Thee Stallion. In the film, Stallion comments on Cady’s Christmas-themed talent show outfit, stating, “Y2K fire crotch is back.”

This derogatory phrase is a throwback to a 2006 paparazzi film in which music manager Brandon Davis used it to describe Lindsay Lohan.

A representative for the 37-year-old actress conveyed that Lohan was profoundly affected by this reference in the remake. Despite this, Lohan herself makes a brief appearance as the moderator for Cady’s Mathletes competition, a moment that holds sentimental value for Rice, the new Cady.

The Mean Girls remake, which hit US cinemas on January 12, has sparked mixed reactions among audiences. While it enjoyed a successful opening weekend with an impressive $33 million at the box office, critics remain divided.

Marc Weinstock, head of worldwide marketing at Paramount, revealed that the choice to not promote the movie as a musical was made on purpose. “This movie is a broad comedy with music. Yes, it could be considered a musical, but it appeals to a larger audience,” Weinstock said.

Despite its box office success, critics have pointed out the challenges faced by much of the cast in replicating the comedic timing of the original film’s stars.

Additionally, the musical numbers seemed constrained by a tight budget. The film, currently in US cinemas, is slated for release in UK cinemas on January 17. As audiences continue to share their opinions, the ultimate test lies in whether the remake will capture the hearts of fans as effectively as the 2004 comedy classic.
