Illinois authorities have arrested Romeo Nance’s girlfriend, linked to the tragic shooting that killed seven family members in two homes last weekend.
The Joliet Police Department confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Kyleigh Cleveland-Singleton, who is now detained at the Will County Adult Detention Facility on charges of Obstructing Justice.
Cleveland-Singleton willingly agreed to accompany authorities to the Joliet Police Department for questioning regarding the homicides, as per statements from Illinois police posted on their official Facebook page.
Investigators concluded that she made statements to impede the apprehension of the suspect, thus obstructing the investigation. Nance, the prime suspect, was eventually located by the US Marshals near Natalia, Texas, and fatally shot himself following a confrontation with law enforcement.
The tragic incident unfolded after seven members of Nance’s family were found dead in homes on West Acres Road in a Chicago suburb. Among the victims were Nance’s mother, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, and two younger siblings.
Authorities Seek to Console in Wake of Illinois Tragedy
Detectives swiftly identified 23-year-old Romeo Nance as the suspect in the West Acres Road homicides and linked him to other violent incidents under investigation. Cleveland-Singleton, who is also the mother of Nance’s 3-year-old son, was apprehended in connection with the case.
There is still no clear motivation for the shootings, despite extensive investigations conducted in Illinois. Chief Bill Evans of the Joliet Police Department acknowledged that it was difficult to comprehend Nance’s behavior, saying, “We can’t get inside his head.”
The Joliet Police Department has confirmed that the ongoing investigation remains active, and their team of Evidence Technicians is meticulously engaged in the thorough processing of a considerable volume of evidentiary materials.
Authorities are working to find answers and provide comfort to the bereaved relatives of this tragic loss, even as the town of Illinois struggles to deal with the fallout from this terrible tragedy.
