A bizarre incident unfolded at Wings of Faith Thrift Store in Ocala, Florida, last Wednesday, resulting in the arrest of 38-year-old Michael Da Costa.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Da Costa stands accused of retail theft and indecent exposure after allegedly barging into the thrift store in the nude and making off with a T-shirt.
The thrift shop, known for its charitable endeavors, offers low-cost items and donations to support those in need, with profits directed towards various mission projects.
After getting allegations from several people who said they saw a naked man running around everywhere outside the thrift store, Florida law officials got involved. The person was described by witnesses as having blue shorts on and spectacles on.
After receiving the detailed descriptions provided by witnesses, law enforcement officers diligently searched the vicinity and successfully located Da Costa, who matched the provided description, approximately one mile away from the site of the incident.
Florida Man Confesses to Nude Entry at Thrift Store
The document states that Da Costa admitted to the investigators that he had run away from somewhere without any clothes and taken sanctuary at the thrift shop in order to get some.
Allegedly entering the establishment completely nude, Da Costa was provided with a pair of shorts by a clerk. However, he departed the store with more than just borrowed attire, reportedly absconding with a T-shirt while still unclothed.
When describing the event to authorities, the clerk voiced her unease with Da Costa’s behavior, pointing out his erratic actions and lack of self-coverage. She decided to file criminal charges for the exposure of her genital organs as a result. The Florida store manager also demanded compensation for the pilfered T-shirt, which was only worth $5.
Da Costa was promptly apprehended and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody on a $6,000 bond. Additional charges were levied against him, including a probation violation for a domestic violence injunction, as indicated by arrest records.
