However, Major General Marcus Evans, commanding general of the US Army’s 25th Infantry Division, reassures that the focus on these wars will not detract from the strategic partnerships in the region.
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Evans emphasized that the combat exercises involving thousands of United States and Philippine forces annually will proceed as planned. He emphasized the importance of these exercises in maintaining readiness and enhancing cooperation, especially given the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific.
The Biden administration’s emphasis on bolstering military alliances in the region, aimed at deterring potential threats, particularly from China, remains steadfast. The annual drills, including the Salaknib and the larger Balikatan exercises, play a crucial role in enhancing interoperability and addressing common security concerns.
