Authorities in Daytona Beach, Florida, are searching for a homeless man who allegedly stabbed his friend with a Samurai sword during a dispute over an Xbox gaming console.
The Daytona Beach Police Department has identified the suspect as Walter Grimes, who is wanted for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following the violent altercation on Monday.
According to reports from local news outlets, officers responded to a distress call at an apartment complex on South Beach Street, where they discovered a man bleeding profusely near the entrance.
Despite suffering from moderate bleeding on his left side, the victim managed to recount the harrowing ordeal to law enforcement. He disclosed that Grimes, whom he had known for approximately two years, had grown increasingly agitated due to his recent homelessness.
This frustration apparently boiled over when the victim inquired about the Xbox console, sparking a deadly confrontation. Witnesses reported hearing screams emanating from the apartment before the victim staggered out, identifying Grimes as his attacker.
Florida Manhunt Intensifies
The assailant, wielding a Samurai sword, allegedly launched a frenzied assault, leaving the victim with multiple stab wounds to his face, shoulder, and knuckle.
Remarkably, the victim noted that Grimes remained silent throughout the ordeal, offering no verbal threats before fleeing the scene. Upon arrival, responding officers encountered a grisly scene, with blood splattered across the apartment entrance and carpet.
The blood-stained Samurai sword found in Florida served as more evidence of how serious the tragedy was. Luckily, the victim’s serious injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he was flown right away to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.
Grimes has already been arrested in 2020 for violence and criminal mischief in Volusia County, according to records, so this isn’t his first run-in with the law.
