Guard Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors isn’t afraid to talk about succession plans, even though they’re rarely discussed candidly in the fast-paced NBA hierarchy. 

As he embarks on his debut season, Podziemski is already envisioning a future where he takes the reins from the iconic Stephen Curry, once the latter decides to hang up his jersey.

Selected 19th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, the 20-year-old Podziemski sees himself as Curry’s successor and embraces the responsibility that comes with it. 

In a recent interview after an impressive showing in the 2024 NBA Rising Stars Game, where he contributed three points, four assists, and two rebounds, Podziemski shared his humble perspective on the potential transition.

Podziemski emphasized his dedication to upholding the tradition that Curry has cultivated over his remarkable career when he said, “When he retires, in how many years that may be, I feel like it’s my job to fulfill what he’s doing.”

Podziemski expressed his love for the Warriors’ seasoned leader by saying, “To see how he is with his wife, Ayesha, his kids, and how he treats all of his teammates and the staff — it’s something you look up to.” 

The rookie also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received from Curry when he joined the team in 2023. Describing Curry as a great mentor both on and off the court, Podziemski acknowledged the four-time NBA champion’s genuine efforts to establish a supportive relationship from day one.
