The Minnesota Timberwolves have secured a vital piece of their roster for the foreseeable future with the announcement of a contract extension for veteran guard Mike Conley.

As to the claims by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Conley’s stay in Minnesota will be guaranteed until the 2025–2026 NBA season, with an extension worth $21 million spread over two years. It is impossible to exaggerate Conley’s significance to the Timberwolves this season.

The 36-year-old has been a steady contributor, averaging 10.6 points and 6.4 assists per game while boasting an impressive 44.2% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc, marking a career high for the seasoned player.

Additionally, Conley ranks second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio, trailing only Tyus Jones of the Washington Wizards.

The journey to Minnesota for Conley began with a mid-season trade from the Utah Jazz, where he had initially signed a three-year, $68 million deal.  Since his arrival, Conley has seamlessly integrated into the Timberwolves’ lineup, providing leadership and veteran experience to the squad.

With the leadership of head coach Chris Finch at the helm, the team is setting its sights on clinching its third consecutive playoff berth, a notable accomplishment that has been realized just once before in the franchise’s history.

As the Timberwolves gear up for the second half of the season, starting with a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, they do so with a sense of stability and confidence bolstered by Conley’s contract extension
