Johnny Manziel’s Allegation: A Former Browns Teammate’s Take

Brian Hoyer addressed Johnny Manziel’s charges on the latest episode of the NFL quarterback drama on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay.

Manziel claimed that Hoyer, his fellow quarterback during the Cleveland Browns’ 2014 season, was unhelpful and uncooperative, attributing it to Hoyer’s desire to secure the starting role.

Hoyer, Manziel, and Connor Shaw were the trio of quarterbacks for the Browns in 2014, with Hoyer making 13 starts, Manziel two, and Shaw one. Manziel’s accusation on Sharpe’s show suggested that Hoyer saw the situation as an opportunity to finally become a starter and was therefore unhelpful to the rookie quarterback.

Responding on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football show, the 38-year-old Hoyer admitted to being apathetic toward Manziel during that time and acknowledged that he was competing for the starting job.

Johnny Manziel’s Allegations

Brian Hoyer addressed Johnny Manziel’s charges on the latest episode of the NFL quarterback drama on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay.

While Hoyer didn’t outright deny Johnny Manziel’s claims, he provided insight into the competitive nature of the quarterback position in the NFL. Hoyer’s stance is understandable given the circumstances.

Manziel, known for his off-field antics and lack of commitment to studying and film-watching, presented a challenge for the team. Hoyer’s priority was to win the starting position, and if Manziel wasn’t putting in the necessary effort, it’s natural that tensions would arise.

While Hoyer’s response may not entirely quell the controversy, it sheds light on the complex dynamics within NFL teams, particularly at the quarterback position. The veteran quarterback’s honesty about his apathy and focus on winning the job provides a glimpse into the challenges faced by players in a highly competitive environment.

Ultimately, Manziel’s allegations and Hoyer’s response serve as a reminder of the demanding nature of professional football and the importance of a dedicated and professional approach, especially for young players entering the league.
