A man faces charges of attempted murder following a violent locker room attack at a suburban Detroit YMCA, with the assault thwarted by former NFL player Braylon Edwards.

“I was innocently occupied on Friday when I overheard a dispute regarding loud music at the Farmington Hills recreation center,” Edwards said when he recounted the event.

“The dispute was about loud music.” During the escalation of emotions, audible indications of a physical conflict occurred, which prompted Edwards to interfere after hearing a startling thud.

On the other hand, Edwards says that he was able to effectively stop the attack that was being committed against an 80-year-old man who had incurred a head injury during the conflict.

The suspected perpetrator, a suspect who is twenty years old, ran away on foot but was eventually tracked down and arrested by the authorities.

According to the records filed in the court, Edwards is the most important witness in the case. Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald has described the event as a “vicious, senseless attack” and has expressed thanks for the witness’s involvement.

Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King, while not explicitly naming Edwards, acknowledged a “good Samaritan” for putting an end to the “vicious assault.”

A hearing in court happened on Saturday for the alleged perpetrator of the assault, who is now being held in jail on a bail of $250,000.

After giving some thought to his choice to step in, Edwards made the following statement: “At the end of the day, that’s what you do.”

After being selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, the former Michigan standout receiver went on to play eight seasons in the National Football League, predominantly with the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets.
