During the third quarter of Sunday afternoon’s game at the American Airlines Center, Maxey was driving towards the basket when he slipped and collided directly with the knee of Mavericks forward Derrick Jones Jr.

The impact caused the back of Maxey’s head to forcefully strike Jones’ knee, resulting in Maxey remaining on the court for an extended period before exiting the game.

Although Jones was cleared to continue playing, he concluded the game with an impressive 24 points in 39 minutes, contributing significantly to the Mavericks’ efforts. Ultimately, the 76ers secured a 120-116 victory over the Mavericks.

Maxey is currently enjoying a standout season with the Philadelphia 76ers. The 23-year-old guard has been averaging 26 points and 6.3 assists per game, marking a career-high performance in his fourth season with the team.

This season also marked Maxey’s debut All-Star selection, showcasing his growing prominence in the league.

Notably, Maxey, selected by the 76ers as the No. 21 overall pick in 2020, is in the final year of his rookie contract.

Maxey’s Potential Return: Upcoming Games for the 76ers

Following Tuesday’s game at the Barclays Center, the Philadelphia 76ers will resume play at home on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the event that Maxey is unable to participate in this matchup, he will have another opportunity to return to action on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, before the 76ers embark on consecutive games at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks the following week.

Presently, the 76ers hold a record of 35-25, positioning them fifth in the Eastern Conference standings as they approach Tuesday’s game.
