LSU’s pursuit of an SEC Tournament Championship took a significant blow as they lost a key player, Last-Tear Poa, to injury during Saturday’s game against Ole Miss. 

In a tough collision on the court, Poa suffered a concussion, forcing her to be stretchered off and taken to the hospital for evaluation. 

While LSU managed to secure a 75-67 victory over Ole Miss, the absence of Poa was deeply felt.

The severity of Poa’s injury became apparent as LSU’s head coach, Kim Mulkey, described her as “unresponsive” at the time of the incident.

Mulkey expressed concern over the impact, stating, “The kid took quite a lick on the back of her head,” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. 

Despite being released from the hospital overnight, Poa’s absence was notable during the team’s championship game against undefeated South Carolina.

Reflecting on the incident, Mulkey highlighted the gravity of the situation, admitting, “I did not see it. I saw it on film just a minute ago, and I wouldn’t even look at it.” The coach’s reaction underscores the emotional toll such injuries can have on players and teams alike.

Poa, hailing from Australia, had been a significant contributor to LSU’s lineup, starting in 10 of the 32 games she played this season.

With an average of 5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, her absence leaves a void in the team’s roster and strategy.
