The Milwaukee Bucks, once seen as championship contenders, struggled under rookie coach Adrian Griffin, lacking the defensive strength of their previous title-winning season.

Griffin’s tenure came to an end on January 23, paving the way for the appointment of seasoned coach Doc Rivers. Although Rivers’ impact initially took time to materialize, recent developments suggest a significant turnaround.

With a 6-4 record in their last 10 games, the Bucks have surged to become the fourth-best defensive team over the past two weeks, according to Cleaning the Glass. This defensive resurgence has garnered attention across the league, marking a notable shift under Rivers’ guidance.

The team’s entire strategy has been transformed by Doc Rivers, as veteran Brook Lopez noted in a recent interview with Mark Medina of Sportskeeda. Rivers is a highly regarded and championship-winning coach who is known for creating efficient game plans that turn his teams into postseason giants.

However, lingering doubts arose due to Rivers’ inability to secure a championship with the Philadelphia 76ers, prompting questions about his suitability for the Bucks job.

The Milwaukee Bucks, once seen as championship contenders, struggled under rookie coach Adrian Griffin, lacking the defensive strength of their previous title-winning season.

The expectations in Milwaukee are high, with talents like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard demanding success.

Yet, with an aging roster and key players like Lopez and Khris Middleton facing challenges, defensive prowess has become paramount for the Bucks. Rivers strategically pursued Patrick Beverley at the trade deadline, emphasizing a commitment to defensive excellence.

The Bucks are now forging a defensive identity, showcasing their ability to thwart opponents at an elite level. If they can maintain this defensive prowess while excelling offensively, they may soon re-enter the contender conversation.

With an MVP-level talent in Giannis reaching his prime, Rivers sees an opportunity to add another championship to his illustrious resume.

Although achieving championship status may take time, Rivers’ early impact with the team has been encouraging. If the Bucks can stay healthy, the mid-season decision to bring in Rivers might prove shrewd, as they continue trending in the right direction.
