Missouri State’s aspirations of securing the coveted automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament were dashed in a heart-stopping championship showdown against Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Bears (23-9, 15-5) fell agonizingly short as Drake (29-5, 19-1) clinched a thrilling 76-75 victory on Sunday afternoon in Moline, Illinois, punching their ticket to the Big Dance.

With just 2.6 seconds remaining, Missouri State’s Lacy Stokes delivered a clutch floater, propelling the Lady Bears to their first lead of the game and igniting hopes of a triumphant comeback.

However, in a cruel twist of fate, Drake’s Anna Miller dashed those hopes with an acrobatic layup at the buzzer, leaving Missouri State and their supporters devastated.

For the Lady Bears, the loss marked a bitter deja vu, as they will miss out on the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.
