Alleged Domestic Violence: Lions’ Cameron Sutton Sought in Florida
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, encompassing Tampa, has issued a warrant for the arrest of Detroit Lions defensive back Cameron Sutton on charges related to domestic violence in Florida.
The warrant, announced via the X social media platform on Wednesday, pertains to domestic battery by strangulation, categorized as a third-degree felony carrying a potential sentence of up to five years’ imprisonment.
Authorities have appealed for assistance from the public in locating Sutton, who may be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer bearing a Florida license plate, according to statements from the sheriff’s office.
Cameron Sutton Evades Authorities Despite Warrant
Based on the report from the Detroit Free Press, Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, indicated that the department received a report of an ongoing domestic violence incident involving Cameron Sutton, aged 29, and a female around 5 a.m. on March 7.
Martello stated that authorities obtained the warrant based on the evidence gathered and suspect that Sutton has fled Tampa.
Despite efforts to reach him, including calls, contact with Sutton has been unsuccessful. Martello mentioned, “Our detectives have exhausted every avenue to make contact with him.”
It remains uncertain whether Sutton has retained legal representation. Attempts to reach out to his agent, David Canter, via text message and email were not immediately answered. Additionally, authorities attempted to leave a voicemail on a cellphone associated with Sutton.
The warrant issued by the sheriff’s department was heavily redacted, but it did mention a residence owned by Sutton in Dunedin, Florida, located along the Gulf Coast, as per property records.
Sutton Faces Career Reputation Risk
As part of their efforts to locate Sutton, law enforcement officials have disclosed that he might be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer bearing a Florida license plate marked AZ33QB.
This information has been disseminated to the public in an effort to facilitate his apprehension.
Sutton’s legal predicament is further complicated by his signing of a substantial three-year contract with the Lions valued at $33 million during the previous offseason, subsequent to five seasons with the Steelers in the NFL.
This development places his professional career and personal standing in jeopardy as legal proceedings progress.
