South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Lamont Paris must be pondering on his treatment of guard Jermaine Couisnard two years ago after his team’s loss in the NCAA Tournament first round tonight.

Couisnard was in his junior year with the Gamecocks in 2022, when Paris replaced Frank Martin.

In statements to the local press, Couisnard himself recalls that the new head coach had minimal communication with him following the change.

This lack of communication ultimately led him to make the decision to enter the transfer portal.

The rest, as they say, is a well-known part of the past. Jermaine departed Columbia and arrived in Eugene, where he has been at the helm of the Ducks for the past two seasons.

Tonight, he finally had the chance to compete against his previous team, emerging victorious in the initial stage of the national tournament.

Oregon was the 11th seed going into the game against sixth-seeded South Carolina.

The Ducks asserted their dominance right from the start and headed into halftime with a 34-29 advantage.

The team led by head coach Dana Altman clearly asserted their dominance throughout the match, particularly in the second half where they outscored their opponents 53-44.

The final score of 87-73 further solidifies their commanding performance.
