Fans Rally for Belichick’s Comeback to Patriots Amidst Mayo’s QB Surprise

The 2024 NFL season hasn’t even begun, and Jerod Mayo is already in problems with New England Patriots fans.

The head coach’s recent words about his prospective starting quarterback sparked uproar among fans, who are already calling for Bill Belichick’s return.

It’s no secret that Tom Brady’s exit in 2020 was devastating to the Patriots. In 2021, Mac Jones failed to fill the shoes of the seven-time Super Bowl winner, while Bailey Zappe struggled to move his offense beginning in 2022.

Jones was the Patriots’ first pick in the 2021 draft, while Zappe was taken in the fourth round. New England has the third overall pick in the 2024 Draft, and most observers believe they would use it to call a new signal-caller, or so they thought until Mayo revealed that Jacoby Brissett is competing for the starting quarterback position.

FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS – JANUARY 11: Head coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots speaks to the media during a press conference at Gillette Stadium on January 11, 2024 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Belichick announced he is stepping down as head coach after 24 seasons with the team.

The fans’ reactions were swift, with statements varying from frustration to astonishment. There was plenty of mockery surrounding Mayo’s surprising statements, as he assumed the position following Belichick’s departure in 2023.

“Bring back Bill Belichick,” declared one fan, receiving approval from numerous others who were astonished by Mayo’s statement. “Yes, they’re about to mess up this draft,” someone else claimed, and another user demanded:”Listen Jerod, stop playing with me dead*ss.”

Another individual expressed their distress, stating, “They are deliberately pushing me towards thoughts of suicide,” while another person remarked, “lmaooooo,so now we’re not committed to a quarterback at the third position???” What on earth are we doing?”Pats are a joke,” “Get ready for zero rating and an empty stadium,” as well as “Marvin at 3 or trade down?” were some of the most thought-provoking comments on X, formerly Twitter.
