Ezekiel Elliott and Dallas Cowboys: Reunion on the Horizon in Free Agency?

276

The Dallas Cowboys are determined to reclaim Super Bowl glory, and they are open to the possibility of acquiring Ezekiel Elliott, one of their standout running backs from the past decade.

Zeke Elliott, a graduate of Ohio State University, joined the Cowboys in 2016 after being drafted. During his initial seasons, Elliott recorded 1,631 yards in 2016 and 1,434 yards in 2018, establishing himself as a preferred teammate for Dak Prescott.

After six years in Arlington, Elliott was released and signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, a team in the midst of rebuilding following the departure of Tom Brady.

Elliott played in all 17 of the Patriots’ regular season games, but his impact on the offense wasn’t as significant for the New England team compared to his time in Dallas.

ARLINGTON, TX – SEPTEMBER 30: Ezekiel Elliott #21 of the Dallas Cowboys scores a touchdown against the Detroit Lions in the second quarter at AT&T Stadium on September 30, 2018 in Arlington, Texas.

After a year with the Patriots, Elliott is once again a free agent in the NFL, and the running back has started considering offers.

The Dallas Cowboys have shown interest, and there are reports from ESPN and NBC Sports suggesting that both the player and the Cowboys management are willing to have an initial meeting.

Dallas was particularly intrigued by Elliott’s impressive performance in the last five regular-season games.

The Ohio State graduate stepped up his game, filling in for the injured Rhamondre Stevenson who unfortunately suffered a sprained ankle from a hip-drop tackle, forcing him to sit out the remainder of the season.

Throughout the season with the Pats, Elliott managed to accumulate 464 rushing yards and found the end zone three times.

Unfortunately, despite Zeke’s contributions, the Pats were unable to secure a spot in the playoffs during the 2023 NFL campaign.
