Carson Wentz : Chiefs Bolster Roster with Super Bowl Veteran as Patrick Mahomes’ Backup QB
In an unexpected move, veteran quarterback Carson Wentz has signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
This is Wentz’s exit from the Los Angeles Rams, where he spent the most of the 2023 season.
Throughout his tenure with the Rams, Wentz primarily played a supporting role behind starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Despite minimal playing time, Wentz demonstrated his ability at crucial occasions, most notably in the regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.
In that game, he stepped in for Stafford and played a crucial role in the Rams’ narrow 21-20 win, which ultimately secured them the sixth seed in the NFC Playoffs.
Carson Wentz’s Impactful Season with the Rams
During his one season with the Rams, Wentz’s performance demonstrated his importance as a quarterback.
He showed off his flexibility by throwing for 163 yards and two touchdowns, as well as 56 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Wentz’s NFL career began in 2016 when the Philadelphia Eagles selected him second overall in the NFL draft. He made an immediate impact, earning the starting position and leading the Eagles to victory.
However, his trajectory was disrupted when a torn ACL ended his 2017 season, despite leading the Eagles to an 11-2 record.
Wentz Joins Chiefs: Adding Depth to Superstar Roster
Despite spells with the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders, Wentz was unable to regain his 2017 top form.
Now with the Kansas City Chiefs, Wentz hopes to provide depth behind superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
While Wentz will not compete for a starting job, his experience and ability set make him a significant asset to a team looking to win another Super Bowl.
As the Chiefs aim for their third consecutive Super Bowl participation, Wentz’s signing adds depth and experience to their squad, potentially enhancing their pursuit for football’s ultimate reward.
