Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican, decides against running for President in 2024:

Three persons with knowledge of the matter tell CNN that Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas has chosen not to seek the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.

Former President Donald Trump is among a list of speculated GOP presidential candidates; nonetheless, Cotton is the first well-known Republican to withdraw from the race. Trump himself is close to making an announcement.

According to one of the people aware of the situation, Cotton took months to consider his options and consulted with supporters, donors, assistants, and his own family before making the choice. A second source claims that he has informed donors that, in the end, he did not want to be separated from his two young boys, ages five and seven.

Cotton and numerous other speculated candidates for the GOP primary had just visited Iowa and New Hampshire, two states that vote first in the contest. Some viewed the combat veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, who has made a name for himself as one of the Senate’s most extreme pro-China senators, as a strong contender from the party’s national security wing.

According to one of the individuals, Cotton has explicitly told contributors that he is still willing to serve in a Republican government in the future.

Politico was the first to publish Cotton’s 2024 choice. Trump’s advisors see the third week of November as a prime opportunity to begin Cotton’s presidential campaign in 2024, provided Republicans do well in the midterm elections.

According to two individuals, Trump’s team has expressly considered November 14 a potential announcement date. This date coincides with President Joe Biden’s long-planned travel to Asia.

Nonetheless, Trump may face primary opposition from several other well-known party members, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump and DeSantis have coexisted for the previous two years on different sides of Florida, from Trump’s Palm Beach residence, where he is contemplating his next move, to DeSantis’ Tallahassee, where he is making a name for himself.

To Trump’s fury, DeSantis has not rejected to challenge him in a primary, in contrast to other possible 2024 candidates.
