3 Russians and Thai Arrested for Illegally Running Phuket Restaurant:
Officers from Phuket Provincial Police and Provincial Police Region 8 informed Phuket Hotnews that they had received a tip concerning suspicious foreigners who often congregated at an eatery named Octopus. After looking into the situation more, they thought that the foreigners were hiring a Thai native as a candidate to manage the restaurant.
Police papers obtained by Phuket Hotnews state that the eatery was run by a business named VVG Alliance. Punyanut, a Thai woman, owned this business. She possessed 20,400 shares, or around 51%.
Two other Russian stockholders were found: Valery, who likewise had 24,5% of the shares, and Vladislav, who owned 9,800 shares. Another Russian worker was a financial manager named Pavel.
Even though Punyanut was nominally owned, investigations showed that most of the restaurant’s earnings—more than 80 million baht—went into Vladislav’s bank account.
Officers also found that Pavel had considerable control over the operation of the VVG Alliance firm and the restaurant, whereas Punyanut had little power. Pavel allegedly carried out Vladislav’s instructions when running the company.
Officers raided the eatery today, April 4, with tangible evidence in hand and were able to detain every suspect.
A maximum penalty of three years in prison, a maximum fine of one million baht, or both might be imposed on the accused for violating several sections of Thailand’s Act on the Business Operation of Foreigners.
Officers searched eight firm offices in the province the same day because they thought the companies were involved in illegal activity with foreigners.
Two Thai women were detained during the investigation for running fictitious businesses to help foreigners get business, jobs, and visa permits. Although a Russian lady associated with the plot was identified, the raid did not involve her presence.
