Two killed in Crash with WSP Trooper:

After colliding with a Washington State Trooper (WSP) while en route to an emergency in the area, two residents of Ollala lost their lives.

The incident occurred near Highway 101 and Lynch Road in Shelton at around 2:37 p.m., according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). Even though the participating trooper did not sustain significant injuries, a medical visit was necessary.

According to the Mason County Coroner’s Office, the two Ollala, Washington residents who perished in the collision were Charles Ferree, 72, and Deolia Blandford, 49.

“At approximately the intersection of Lynch Road, a trooper was involved in a collision while traveling south on Highway 101 with lights and sirens in response to an emergency,” MCSO Deputy Matt Colbenson told KOMO News. “Sadly, the other vehicle that was in that crash, the two occupants were pronounced dead on scene.”

Nobody else was hurt, and there weren’t any further cars involved.

“All of a sudden, there was a big blast or something like that. That was the loudest I’ve ever heard anyplace,” remarked neighbor Shane Van Wormer. “It was almost like thunder, deafening and sudden.”

According to Van Wormer, the WSP soldier first seemed stuck within his unit.

“It looked like he had a hard time moving out of the car, and a person passing by dragged him out or tried to open the door,” he explained.

Although the cause of the incident is still being investigated, the second car attempted to cross the roadway or get onto Roadway 101 when the WSP trooper heading south on Highway 101 collided with it.

“We’re not sure if they were trying to cross into traffic, or they were just integrating onto the highway because it’s a crossroads where you can cross to the other side,” Colbenson explained. “It’s unknown at this time.”

According to officials, it is a high-collision location for the MCSO, and collisions happen here frequently.
