Fallout 4 PS Plus Owners Currently Cannot Get the Next-Gen Update for Free

Update: As of April 25 at 3:41 pm Eastern Time, a Bethesda Softworks Community Manager shared on the official Bethesda Discord server that they are actively working to address the issue affecting PS Plus owners who are unable to access the free next-gen update.

Bethesda Game Studios also posted a similar update on their Twitter page. IGN has reached out to Bethesda to inquire about potential refunds for PS Plus players who purchased Fallout 4 before the update was made available. The original situation remains ongoing.

Currently, it seems that players who have Fallout 4 through PlayStation Plus are encountering difficulties downloading the next-gen update at no cost. Reports suggest that the next-gen update for Fallout 4, which can be found in the patch notes, is only free for those who own the game outright rather than through a PS Plus subscription.

It remains uncertain whether this distinction is intentional or a technical issue. IGN has requested a statement from Bethesda for clarification.

Interestingly, the situation appears to differ for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, where the Xbox Series X and S version of Fallout 4 is accessible to members. Notably, Bethesda, the developer of Fallout, is under the ownership of Xbox’s parent company, Microsoft.
