David Schultz, aged 53 years, was first reported missing by his wife on November 21, 2023, and has now been found dead. 

Schultz’s wife, Sarah, tells KCCI that her husband’s body was traced in a farmer’s land and that the Sac County Sheriff’s Office identified him by the boots he was wearing. 

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, the body was discovered right before 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The body was found near the intersection where Schultz’s semi was located the day he disappeared. 

The remains of his body are being transported to the Iowa office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy. No further details have been released yet.

Overview Of Schultz’s Missing Case

On November 20, around 7 p.m., Schultz left his Wall Lake home and went to pick up a load of pigs from a hog confinement in the Eagle Grove area. He left around 10:50 p.m.

CCTV video footage shows Schultz at a truck stop on November 20, around 11:15 p.m. and after leaving the truck stop, his emi-truck was seen heading towards west on Iowa Department of Transportation cameras. 

Cell phone data shows Schultz’s phone traveling to the location where the semi-truck was found. Further, the intersection of D-15 and N-15. Data suggests that the semi-truck may have been there since 12:40 a.m. on November 21.

Later, when he didn’t return, Schultz’s wife reported that he had been missing since the afternoon. His semi-truck with a load of pigs, was found at an intersection near Sac City with his wallet and mobile inside.

A search and rescue group named United Cajun Navy, organized a team in which around 200 volunteers participated in the search that covered over 100000 acres. 

During the research, another man was found dead, 54-year-old Mark Riesberg. An initial reward of $2000 was announced for providing information about Schultz’s disappearance, which later increased several times before his body was found dead.
