Crunchyroll Announces Price Increases and Service Changes
The two most costly subscription packages at Crunchyroll will now cost more. This is the company’s first price increase since 2019.
In an email to subscribers and on its website this morning, Crunchyroll announced the price rise, which will impact more than 36 countries, including the US. The Fan tier, Crunchyroll’s lower-tiered $7 subscription option, will remain unaffected by the price increase, as mentioned, but those who are subscribed to higher-paid tiers will be impacted.
The pricing changes for each premium tier are listed below:
The Mega Fan tier will now cost $11.99 per month instead of $9.99.
The monthly cost of the Ultimate Fan tier will go up to $15.99.
“These changes, effectively today for new subscribers and with the June billing cycle for current subscribers, will allow us to acquire more diverse anime content, bring subscribers even more benefits and access, and re-invest more into the overall Japanese anime ecosystem,” Crunchyroll wrote in an email to subscribers. “This is the first price increase in five years, and we are committed to bringing fans more of what they love – more access to the best anime from Japan.”

Along with the announcement of today’s membership pricing changes, Crunchyroll also revealed that the free trial time has been shortened from 14 to 7 days. The price rise coincides with the progressive price increases of several other streaming services, including Netflix and Disney+/Hulu.
The news of today comes after the anime streamer and Funimation completed their $1.2 billion merger in 2021. Fans were furious with Crunchyroll at the time because of the subsequent merger, which meant that customers would lose access to the anime series and movies they had bought under Funimation after combining their accounts. A month has passed since Crunchyroll’s eagerly anticipated Multiple Profiles functionality debuted.
