Duke Johnson to Retire from NFL:
Johnson noted that he “never dreamed of being the all-time leading rusher of my dream school,” but that is precisely what he was at the University of Miami before being drafted in the third round in 2015. With the Browns, he ran 299 times for 1,286 yards and five touchdowns while also catching 235 passes for 2,170 yards and eight scores. The Browns traded Johnson to the Texans before the 2019 season, where he spent two seasons. He returned to his hometown of Miami with the Dolphins in 2021 and appeared in one game for the Bills in 2022. Johnson has 532 carries for 2,265 yards and 311 receptions for 2,870 yards during his career. He tallied 23 total touchdowns.
Houston acquired Johnson in 2019 in exchange for a conditional 2020 fourth-round pick, which may be converted into a third-round pick if he plays ten games with the Texans. Johnson and Carlos Hyde rushed for 410 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 44 receptions for 410 yards and three touchdowns. A year later, Duke Johnson carried for 235 yards and a touchdown alongside David Johnson. He was fired the next offseason after finishing 4-12. Johnson previously played for the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills before sitting out the 2023 season. Johnson concluded his eight-year career with 5,135 total yards and 23 touchdowns. Johnson remains the Hurricanes’ all-time best rusher, with 3,519 yards.
