China Zoo Panda dogs to like Panda
A Chinese zoo colored chow puppies and dubbed them “panda dogs” for a new exhibit, prompting charges of deceiving customers. This month’s videos of the unusual-looking fluffy animals playing in the exhibit at Taizhou Zoo in Jiangsu Province went viral on social media.
Chow Chow Dogs:
The zoo was accused of misleading tourists in China, requiring it to defend the unusual behavior. “This is merely a new display we have for guests. We do not charge more. According to the state-owned tabloid Global Times, the phrase depicting Chow Chow dogs is correct and accurately conveys what they are; therefore, we are not tricking our guests.
The chow chow dog breed originates in China. Jam Press, citing Qilu Evening News, said that a zoo official claimed “people also dye their hair” in response to concerns that dyeing the canines was inhumane to attract tourists.
What is the Controversy?
“Natural dye can be used on dogs if they have long fur,” they stated. It came less than a year after a different Chinese zoo had to deny that their sun bear was a human dressed as a bear and after videos of it standing on its hind legs and waving to the crowd went viral. “If a person did wear a bear costume, they would be lying down due to the heat,” a Hangzhou Zoo spokesman stated. Logan Dudley, a keeper at Taronga Zoo, said the sun bear’s loose skin and ability to stand on its hind legs are characteristics common to the species. “The saggy, rolly skin could look like a poorly fitting costume, but it’s an adaptation sun bears have,” she said. “Flexible saggy skin helps to protect them from predation in the wild.”
