Why Chili’s Is Shutting Doors Across America in 2024?

For more than four decades, you couldn’t drive far down the road or to a mall without coming across a Chili’s restaurant. They are well-known for their baby back ribs and other American favorites. This may change when America’s restaurant scene shifts abruptly.

Chili’s is closing locations across America:

Brinker International’s owner of Chili’s had a challenging year in 2023, closing 16 Chili’s stores nationwide. This pattern continues in 2024 for the chain restaurant. According to MSN, Chili’s will close three sites in 2024: Fort Wayne, Indiana, and St. Joseph, Missouri, and a location in Charlotte, North Carolina, have already closed this year.

Why Is Chili’s Closing Its Doors Across America?

According to Brinker International, the stores were “performing below our standards and were near or at the expiration of their lease terms.” According to a CNN article, many restaurants, including Chili’s, Applebee’s, and Ruby Tuesday, are departing their once-popular mall locations.

RJ Hottovy, head of analytical research at data analytics firm Placer.ai, stated, “Traditional mall restaurants were casual dining brands like Chili’s, TGI Fridays, and quick-service restaurants in food courts. “They want drive-thru locations right now.” Thanks to its renowned baby back ribs jingle, Chili’s enjoyed a successful run in the 1990s and 2000s. Run, don’t walk, to your local Chili’s since it may close without notice, as a few Chili’s stores have done recently.
