The winner’s name in the NBA draft lottery was no less than a surprise. The Atlanta Hawks were announced as the No.1 pick in the NBA draft lottery on Sunday afternoon.

The 2024 NBA draft lottery was presented by State Farm and it was conducted at McCormick Place Convention Centre, Chicago on Sunday 12th May.

The results from the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery are as follows:-

  1. Atlanta
  2. Washington
  3. Houston
  4. San Antonio
  5. Detroit
  6. Charlotte
  7. Portland
  8. San Antonio
  9. Memphis
  10. Utah

The Hawks entered the lottery with Just 3 percent chance to secure the No. 1 pick. With the Hawks in 1st spot, Washington, Houston, San Antonio and Detroit rounded the top 5 of the NBA draft.

The Atlanta Hawks, with 36-46 this season, finished in the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite the odds of just a 3 percent chance in the NBA draft, the team secured the 1st position in the lottery for the first time since 1975.

“It’s been a while,” the general manager of the Atlanta Hawks, Landry Fields said. “That turned out a little differently than hopefully what we’ll be expecting here for the future. But excited about this (draft) class, excited about continuing to build what we got going in Atlanta.”

In the press conference, Fields added that “Positioning is key in this business and that is the position that we have right now the No. 1 position. We will just keep doing what we do, gather as a group and we will figure this thing out in time.”

Washington and Detroit had the best probability to be on the No.1 spot with 14 percent. For Detroit, the worst record of this year is to land on No.5 . The Rockets, with 41-41 this season, moved up 6 spots to get the 3rd spot.

For the first time, the NBA Draft 2024 will be held for two nights. Its First Round will be held on 26th June, Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the Second Round will be on 27th June, Thursday at Seaport District Studios in NewYork. The Atlanta Hawks will have the opportunity to have the first overall pick in the NBA draft 2024.
