KTLA confirmed Rubin’s death on social media with a poignant message: “KTLA 5 is profoundly saddened to report the death of Sam Rubin.” The statement said, “Sam was a giant in the local news industry and the entertainment world and a fixture of Los Angeles morning television for decades.” His laugh, charm, and loving attitude affected everyone who knew him. Sam was a devoted husband and parent, two roles he valued the most. Our sympathies are with Sam’s family during this difficult time.” Henry Winkler, a frequent guest at Rubin’s, called from the airport to express his sorrow.

According to TMZ, Rubin died of a heart attack. According to sources familiar with the matter, the reporter was killed after being taken to a Los Angeles hospital. According to the reports, Rubin suffered a heart attack at home and fell into cardiac arrest before being transported to the hospital. Morning presenter Frank Buckley was surprised at Rubin’s unexpected death, saying, “We don’t know what happened, but it was sudden.” Eric Spillman called in to voice his anguish and said, “I can’t believe we’re reporting this — it’s such a shock.”
