Why is Mike Conley not Playing Tonight against the Denver Nuggets?
The Minnesota Timberwolves meet the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 on Tuesday night, with the best-of-seven series tied 2-2, and they will be without point guard Mike Conley Jr. for the crucial swing game.
Conley was listed on the team’s injury report as having right Achilles pain. He was injured on the last play of Minnesota’s 115-107 Game 4 defeat to the Nuggets at Target Center. Conley scored 15 points in the loss. The Timberwolves will miss his ability to manage the offense, keep the ball moving, and provide leadership when things go awry on the court.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker will start Game 5 in his place. The Timberwolves will also require more from Naz Reid, Kyle Anderson, and potentially Jordan McLaughlin off the bench.
The victor of Tuesday night’s game is in a strong position to win the series in Game 6, which will be played at Target Center on Thursday. The loser must win two straight to progress to the Western Conference Finals. The road team has won every game in the series thus far.
