Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch marries for fifth time
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has entered into his fifth marriage at his vineyard in California. The 93-year-old tied the knot with his new spouse, Elena Zhukova, 67, who is a retired Russian biologist. Speculations about their relationship arose shortly after his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith was called off in April 2023.
Rupert Murdoch, originally from Australia and father of six children, serves as the chairman emeritus of News Corporation, the parent company of major media outlets like Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, the Sun, and the Times. He and Elena Zhukova reportedly met at a gathering hosted by one of his former wives, Wendi Deng. His previous marriages include Patricia Booker, Anna Mann, and Jerry Hall.
Elena Zhukova, previously married to Russian oil tycoon Alexander Zhukov, has a daughter named Dasha, who was once married to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Rupert Murdoch’s career began in Australia in the 1950s and expanded to the UK with the acquisitions of News of the World and the Sun in 1969. He later acquired US publications such as the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal.
In 1996, he launched Fox News, now a leading TV news channel in the US. Through News Corp, established in 2013, he retains ownership of numerous media outlets globally. Despite his success, his career faced controversies, notably the UK phone-hacking scandal involving the News of the World. Last September, he announced his step back from the forefront of his media empire, passing responsibilities to his son, Lachlan.
